How long does a prosthesis last?

How long does a prosthesis last? How long do sneakers last?

When you ask us how long the prostheses last it is not easy to answer since we can give you an approximate duration. And why approximate? Because just like if you are going to buy a shoe and ask the same question, everything will depend on the use.

At first the lack of experience plays tricks on you. The nerves, the pulls, the use of inappropriate products… affect the duration of the prosthesis. But little by little you will gain practice for the benefit of the duration of the prosthesis.

Sharing our own experience and the experience of our customers we have realized that the more periodic and constant the maintenance, the longer the prosthesis.

As we always advise you, the ideal is to perform maintenance once a week or ten days. If you exceed the recommended time, the glue will rise to the hair and you will have to use solvent to clean it. The solvent is an abrasive product, recommended only for emergencies, therefore it should not be a product of habitual use. Its continued use by wanting to endure longer with prosthesis on, will be detrimental to the duration of it.

So the more methodical you are with your maintenance, the longer you will get from the system.

We return to the example of sneakers. If you do sports, you go to the beach, to the mountains to the Piscean style, to party… They won’t last you the same as if you only use them for walking.

The “same” happens with the prosthesis will depend on the lifestyle you lead, if you do a lot of sport, go to the pool or the beach usually will not last you the same as if you do a quieter life.

You will read in some forums opinions of years of duration of a system, but under what conditions? We have found everything, customers who squeeze the most out of the life of the piece, to the extreme of having large bald spots or breaks or customers who having it perfect and being able to extend its use, prefer to make the change.

At the end of the day you will be the one who makes that decision.

Finally we leave you a brief description of the estimated duration of the systems:

Swiss mesh:

  • It is the finest and therefore the most undetectable.
  • Being so fine it is also the most delicate and therefore the one that will allow us the least duration.
  • Estimated duration from 3 months to 6 months

French mesh:

  • It is a few microns thicker than the French, but the difference is barely noticeable. Its durability is greater than the Swiss one.
  • Estimated duration of 4 to 8 months.

Monofilament:

  • If your priority is durability and comfort, we will definitely recommend a monofilament mesh.
  • Having a larger body than the Swiss and French will allow you to place on your own easier to perform
  • Estimated duration of 6 to 12 months.
